CRH2 trains, a modified E2-1000 Series Shinkansen design, and represents the second Shinkansen train model to be exported, started commercial operation on the Shanghai-Hangzhou and Shanghai-Nanjing lines on January 28, 2007.
"With this project, we hope to prove to China that Japanese Shinkansen trains are good and reliable," a spokesman with Hitachi said. Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Kawasaki Heavy are already among some 40 Japanese firms bidding for a multibillion dollar high-speed rail line project between Beijing and Shanghai based on bullet train technology, although no date has been set for awarding the contract.
Mitsubishi Corporation is acting as the head of China High-speed Railway Japanese Consortium in China. "Shinkansen is advanced in terms of technology. What's more, these technologies are in the hand of Japan's railway companies, which obviously is our big advantages, since it's more easier for technology-transfer and localization. " Staff with Mitsubishi China said in an exclusive interview.
Mitsubishi and Hitachi both signed up for the 2nd Annual China RailWorld Summit 2007 which is China's largest high speed railway conference, after the Japan Overseas Rolling Stock Association decided to endorse this event in Beijing this October, and strives to be the front runner in China's railway bidding.
