The 4th Smart Grid Forum, organized by China Decision Makers Consultancy (CDMC), was held in Shanghai Doubletree by Hilton Hotel on 13th -14th of September 2012. The two-day event attracted many well-known experts both domestic and foreign, delivering  more than twenty speeches with good points and was attended by over 220 domestic and overseas experts.

The forum was declared opened by Bob HELLE, Chairman of Zigbee Alliance.

The opening speaker was Mr. YANG Jiangli, Deputy Secretary General for Smart Grid Equipment Working Committee of China Electrical Equipment Industry Association, he pointed out the problems that exist in Chinese transmission and substation industry, “Every country has different emphasis in the development of smart grid, and in some ways are complementary to each other. China can use the U.S. sensor technologies and European distributed energy technologies for reference,” said Mr. YANG Jiangli.

In recent years, China and U.S. have make policies encouraging the development of renewable energy. This brings new challenges to the traditional grid, smart grid construction should be enhanced to response large-scale grid generation.

China has surpassed the United States to become the world’s largest energy user, according to the Paris-based International Energy Agency. As a result of rapidly growing GDP, China’s domestic energy consumption will continue to rise.

“By working together, we can learn from each other, drive down costs and accelerate the clean energy revolution.” said Mr. Martin J. Schoenbauer, Executive Director of DOE China Office. He also proposed to support China and US smart grid transformation goals through the application of world class solutions and best practices.

“Denmark process world class R&D capacity, 22 % of European Smart Grid RD&D are performed in Denmark,” said Mr. Lars Christensen, Science and Technology Consul of Innovation Center Denmark.

At the same time, during the second stage of China’s Smart Grid Plan - 2011 to 2015 – policymakers have several specific aims. One objective is to accelerate UHV, urban and rural grid construction. Another is to establish the basic framework for smart grid operation control and interaction. The Smart Grid Plan also has specific targets in technology and equipment production and mass deployment.
The forum ended successfully on 14th September, it was supported by TUV Sud,Ericsson,Enverv,BaseN, while attracting delegates from GE, Siemens, Panasonic, Honeywel, Hitachi, Pinggao Group, Sieyuan Electric.
