The inaugural China Intellectual Property Focus Awards is designed to identify and reward those companies who have demonstrated an unparalleled ability to succeed and have continually set standards of excellence. 2012 is the fourth year since the release of the "National Intellectual Property Strategy Outline.” It has become essential to vigorously promote intellectual property strategies against the backdrop of economic globalization.
As the importance of the knowledge economy increases and economic globalization advances, intellectual property has become a key element in international competition. In recent years, Chinese enterprises expanding overseas have encountered an increasing number of IP disputes, which not only discourage local companies from competing in international markets, but also have negative effects on bilateral and multilateral trade relations.
Especially in the American market, Chinese enterprises have gotten involved in a lot of unfair IP prosecutions and investigations pertinent to Section 337. Lacking knowledge of Section 337 and familiarity of U.S jurisdiction principles makes Chinese companies more apt to give up protecting their rights.
Meanwhile, an increasing number of international companies have encountered IP litigation, especially in the trademark sector. Protecting the MNCs’ intellectual property and establishing comprehensive IP strategies and law systems have become a common concern for all parties.
