The GridWise Alliance
The GridWise™ Alliance, founded in 2003, is a collaborative venture between private industry and the U.S. Department of Energy. GWA has developed into an organization that represents a broad range of the energy supply chain from utilities to large tech companies to academia to venture capitalists to emerging tech companies. This variety of stakeholders gives the Alliance a unique diversity of perspectives which enables interactive dialogue between members. Being a consensus based organization; the assortment of opinions produces deliberate and highly reflected upon resolutions to key issues.
The organization's goal is to transform and modernize the nation's electrical power system so that energy can be generated, distributed and consumed more efficiently, cost effectively and environmentally friendly.
WADE
The World Alliance for Decentralized Energy (WADE) is a non-profit research, promotion and advocacy organization representing global companies as well as industry and environmental groups.
WADE works to accelerate the worldwide development of high efficiency cogeneration, onsite power and decentralized renewable energy systems that deliver substantial economic and environmental benefits. In an effort to raise the profile of cogeneration as a climate change mitigation strategy in the 1997 UNFCCC climate change negotiations the International Cogeneration Alliance was founded. In 2002 the group changed its name to WADE and broadened its scope to include all manner of DE technologies.
GridWise® Architecture Council (GWAC)
The GridWise® Architecture Council (GWAC) was formed by the U.S. Department of Energy to promote and enable interoperability among the many entities that interact with the nation's electric power system. The GWAC members are a balanced and respected team representing the many constituencies of the electricity supply chain and users. The GWAC maintains a broad perspective of the GridWise vision and provides industry guidance and tools that make it an available and practical resource for the various implementations of Smart Grid technology.
